The emergence of largescale arrays of seismometers across several continents presents the opportunity to image the Earths structure at unprecedented resolution but methods must be developed to exploit the capabilities of these deployments
Based on continuous passive recordings of seismic ambient noise at an array of geophones in a fjor of Svalbard Norway The Green’s function of the guided waves propagating in the ice will be computed with the socalled ambient noise correlation approach The dispersion of these waves will be calculated and converted via a floating ice model into an estimate of the ice thickness damage
Ambient seismic noise has been extensively used in the past decade to image and monitor the Earths crust and shallow layers By interfering continuous seismic signals recorded at different sensors one can convert weak background ground vibrations into useful signals
The use of the ambient seismic field ASF to extract Earth’s response has received significant attention in the last several years Multiple studies demonstrate the utility of the ASF for estimating highresolution velocity models in various locations
Research focus– 20102015 Experimental numerical and theoretical study of the spatialtemporal coherence of seismic ambient noise with applications to La fédération IGE
These include methods such as ambient seismic noise correlation and magnetotellurics as well as downhole logging tools
